Ladakh is a high altitude desert located in the middle of the Himalayas, adjoining Tibet. By "high" I mean the average height here is 12,500 feet. This image is a view of Tso Kar, "Tso" meaning lake and the path you see on the left is the "road" leading to the camp-site where we spent the night. Tso Kar is located at an altitude of 14,000 feet and breathing here was difficult, thought not as much as in Tso Moriri. The landscape is arid and desert scrub and the lake itself is salt water and filled with brine. Its a great location for wildlife sightings and my Photography group took photos of the Kiang or Tibetan Ass, Brahmini Duck, Marmots, Golden Eagle amongst others.

"Changthang" means Northern Plains in Tibetan as this plateau is an extension of the Tibetan Plateau that starts further to the east.
