I have always had a passing interest in astronomy but it was not to little more than 4 years ago that I was truly bitten by the astronomy bug. Astrophotography now plays a major role in my life so much so I spend my days monitoring weather and spaceweather websites. By night I tour the county of Donegal in the northwest of Ireland, where I was born and raised, seeking out the idyllic foregrounds to complement the regions famously dark skies.
The morning of the 8th/9th seen a beautiful aurora display over Ireland and indeed rest of the more northerly portion of the globe. After the short bright summer’s nights it was fantastic to stand under a rich, inky black autumn sky watching to the “Merry Dancer’s” return to the sky. A meteor even sliced through the field of view of one of my exposure. Yet another rewarding night under the stars
